Bushwick’s biggest art event of the year

By

Bushwick Open Studios is back this weekend, with hundreds of artists, block parties, and art sales taking place throughout the neighborhood. An online map of all the open studios to tour has not been posted yet, but there are neighborhood hubs where you can pick up a physical map (check the poster on the Arts in Bushwick site for them). In the meantime, Hyperallergic has an overview of the weekend to get you started. Kick things off Friday night at one of the opening parties. At Brooklyn Fire Proof from 7 to 10pm, there will be four exhibitions on view, and artists are encouraged to network here before going their separate ways to sit solo in their studios all weekend. (The event’s name, Supermassive Opening Party, comes from the current show, “Supermassive Black Hole,” of paintings by Bushwick artist Sharilyn Neidhardt at Art During the Occupation Gallery.) Over at Fuchs Projects from 6 to 9pm, the artist Ibuki Minami will demonstrate his blowtorch painting techniques during a reception of his exhibit. And if you need more stimulus after that, follow the tail end of our 10 hours in Bushwick guide. You might just walk through a magic wardrobe.
