Nightfall at Green-Wood Cemetery

By

In writing about the hidden graves I stumbled upon in Prospect Park, with the help of guidebooks like Secret Brooklyn, I learned that there are catacombs beneath Green-Wood Cemetery, open only on special occasions. Curious as to when they would open to the public again, I stumbled on Nightfall, an event happening throughout the cemetery this Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20 from 8pm till midnight. The evening includes chamber musicians playing in the candle-lit catacombs, performers from Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, storytellers from The Moth, moving images courtesy Rooftop Films and other oddities from Morbid Anatomy sprinkled throughout. A ticket for this one-of-a-kind experience for the 21+ will run you $80 ($75 for members), but what a way to pre-game for Halloween.
