Brooklyn Blackout Cake is here to save you from Monday

By

Monday is National Chocolate Cake Day, and while I’m usually the first to pooh-pooh the concept of having a day set aside for every single hyper-specific foodstuff, in this case I’m all in. It’s Monday for god’s sake, and who doesn’t need an excuse for chocolate cake? Since we are in Brooklyn, why not opt for a slice of the borough’s namesake Blackout Cake, that ultimate triumph to chocolate made famous by the now-defunct Ebinger’s Bakery on Flatbush. Ladybird Bakery in South Slope and Ovenly in Greenpoint both have particularly well-liked renditions available for purchase or, if you are looking to kill an entire day, you can try to make it yourself.
