In recent years, Helvetica’s gone from being a font to a phenomenon, starring in a full-length documentary and an exhibition at MoMA. On Friday night, writer/designer Paul Shaw will be stopping by BookCourt to share his thoughts on the versatile font’s rise in a location that most of us see every day – the New York City subway system. He’ll track the history of the system’s signage, from the end of the 1960s to today, as well as answer any other font-based questions on the subway; copies of his limited-edition book, now in its second printing, will also be for sale.
