Plan Ahead: The Great GoogaMooga Returns

By

The internet was abuzz this week with the news that a new and improved Great GoogaMooga is rolling back into Prospect Park for three days in May. That’s right, the much-hyped food and music bacchanalia that pretty much caused everyone’s head to explode on Twitter last spring is back for round 2–this time with 10 new food vendors (bringing the grand total to 85) and tons of musical acts, including the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Flaming Lips, the Darkness, Matt & Kim, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Tones and, my personal fave, De La Soul. Tickets for the May 17 kickoff concert, which features the first three bands listed above, go on sale this Thursday at noon for $49.50, which also guarantees general admission to the food fest on either May 18 or May 19. Saturday or Sunday tickets are still free, but you need to register beginning at noon on April 1, and you’re going to need to move fast. Although most of the rookie mistakes that made everyone so ornery last year were cleared up by the second day, the event’s producers have made a lot of changes to ensure that things go much smoother this time, including doing away with the Extra Mooga (although there is a $79.50 VIP Cocktail Experience option) and agreeing to provide water, better cell service and lots of options for vegetarians. At any rate, it’s a new Brooklyn tradition and a spring day in the park with awesome food and music, so don’t miss the window to sign up.
