Sunday in Brooklyn: A Do The Right Thing Block Party in Bed-Stuy

By

Brooklyn’s very own mega-celebrity, film director/cultural icon/NBA-adjacent personality Spike Lee, is no stranger to a great block party, having been the impetus behind the annual “Prince Born Day Purple People Party” and the “Brooklyn Loves Michael Jackson Block Party” over the past several years. Now, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his groundbreaking Do The Right Thing, Lee is throwing another free and open to the public bender this Sunday on the very Bed-Stuy block where the classic movie featuring a star-studded cast that includes Danny Aiello, Giancarlo Esposito, Samuel L. Jackson, Martin Lawrence, Rosie Perez, and John Turturro, in addition to Lee himself, was filmed. Details are scant, but I’m guessing there will be lots of throwback outfits and old school beats to enjoy, and maybe even an outdoor screening. If you want to check it out, head to Stuyvesant Ave. between Lexington and Quincy, which was renamed “Do The Right Thing Way” a few years back, between noon and 6pm.
